Frequently Asked Questions
Where does the elevation data come from?
Elevation data is sourced from open-source digital elevation models (SRTM/NASA). It is suitable for general GIS analysis and preliminary assessments. For engineering-grade accuracy, LiDAR or GNSS field measurements are required.
Is the elevation above ground or above sea level?
The value shown is altitude above mean sea level (AMSL). It represents the elevation of the terrain at that geographic point, not the height of any structure above it.
How do I create an elevation profile?
Switch to the "Profile" tab and add multiple points along a route on the map. The tool displays the elevation changes graphically. This is useful for hiking trail planning, pipeline routing, and terrain analysis.
