Turkish Map Sheet Finder: Sheet Name and Corner Coordinates
Click the map or enter a coordinate to get the Turkish map sheet (pafta) name at every scale from 1:100,000 to 1:500, the sheet's corner coordinates and the surrounding sheet index.
Easting is Y and northing is X in Turkish practice. If the values are entered the wrong way round, the tool treats the 7-digit value as the northing.
For official work
The tool computes sheet names from the division rules in Turkish regulations and is meant as an aid. For land registry, cadastral and zoning work, the sheet index of TKGM or the municipality prevails. Calculations run in your browser; only basemap tiles are requested from Esri and OpenStreetMap servers.

What a map sheet is and what its name tells you
A map sheet (pafta in Turkish) is a single printed or drawn page of a map at a given scale. In Turkey, topographic and large-scale maps are divided by a nested grid based on geographic coordinates, and the sheet name is shorthand for a position in that grid: each part of the name splits the previous one into smaller pieces. Once you know a sheet's name you can compute its corner coordinates, and once you know a point's coordinates you can find the sheet it falls in. This tool works in both directions.
The sheet system
| Scale | How it is formed | Size | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1:250,000 | Between whole-degree parallels, 1°30' wide counted from the 27° meridian; named after the largest town in the area | 1° x 1°30' | ADAPAZARI |
| 1:100,000 | A letter for the row (north to south, starting with D at 42°30' N, Q not used) and a number for the column (west to east) | 30' x 30' | G25 |
| 1:50,000 | 1:100,000 sheet split into four: a, b, c, d | 15' x 15' | G25-d |
| 1:25,000 | 1:50,000 sheet split into four: 1, 2, 3, 4 | 7'30" x 7'30" | G25-d1 |
| 1:10,000 | 1:50,000 sheet split five by five: 01-25, row by row from the north-west | 3' x 3' | G25-d-01 |
| 1:5,000 | 1:10,000 sheet split into four: a, b, c, d | 1'30" x 1'30" | G25-d-01-d |
| 1:2,000 | 1:5,000 sheet split into four: 1, 2, 3, 4 | 45" x 45" | G25-d-01-d-1 |
| 1:1,000 | 1:2,000 sheet split into four: a, b, c, d | 22.5" x 22.5" | G25-d-01-d-1-a |
| 1:500 | 1:1,000 sheet split into four: 1, 2, 3, 4 | 11.25" x 11.25" | G25-d-01-d-1-a-2 |
In every four-way split the letters or digits start at the north-west sheet and run clockwise: a and 1 are north-west, b and 2 north-east, c and 3 south-east, d and 4 south-west. 1:10,000 sheets are derived directly from the 1:50,000 sheet rather than from the 1:25,000 sheet, so names at 1:5,000 and larger scales do not contain the 1:25,000 digit.
How to use it
- Click a point on the map or enter a coordinate. Geographic coordinates can be decimal degrees (40.7236) or DMS (40°43'25"N); for TM and UTM, choose the zone and enter the easting (Y) and northing (X).
- The list shows the 1:250,000 name for that point and every sheet name from 1:100,000 down to 1:500. Click a row to highlight that sheet on the map.
- View the selected sheet's corner coordinates as WGS84/ITRF96 geographic, ED50 geographic, ITRF96 or ED50 3° TM, or ED50 or WGS84 UTM, and copy the table. The zone is chosen automatically from the sheet centre and can be changed.
- If you already know a sheet name (for example G25-d-01-d, İ29-b-02-d-1-a or M28-b3), type it into the search box and the sheet opens on the map.
- Download the selected sheet or the grid in the visible area as KML, GeoJSON or DXF.
ED50 and ITRF96: same name, different place
Turkey's Large Scale Map and Map Information Production Regulation (Official Gazette, 26 June 2018) requires coordinates to be computed on the GRS80 ellipsoid in 3° TM zones based on TUREF. The corner coordinates of the G25-d-01-d example in Annex 9 of the regulation show that sheet corners fall exactly on round ITRF96 geographic coordinates. Older large-scale maps and topographic maps produced before 2003 are on the ED50 datum, where the same division was applied to ED50 latitudes and longitudes. Because the two datums differ by roughly 100 to 130 metres in Turkey, two sheets with the same name do not cover the same ground. If you know the datum of your map, set the sheet datum accordingly; results for points near a sheet edge can change.
Accuracy and limits
- The division rules and naming were verified to the centimetre against the Annex 9 example in the regulation and the corner coordinates of a published Ankara Metropolitan Municipality 1:5,000 sheet.
- 1:250,000 names are taken from a published sheet index, and some of them were checked against sheet names in General Directorate of Mapping (HGM) and MTA publications. No verified names were found for row D north of 42° or row R south of 36°, so only the code is shown there.
- The ED50 to WGS84 transformation uses the EPSG:1784 parameters, with an accuracy of about 2 metres. For points that close to a sheet edge, treat the ED50 result as uncertain.
- Cadastral sheets, especially older ones and those in local coordinate systems, may be named differently from this division. For official work the sheet index of TKGM or the municipality prevails; this tool is an aid.
Data and method
The sheet calculation is this page's own code and runs entirely in your browser; the coordinate or sheet name you enter is not sent to a server. Sources: Article 73 and Annex 9 of the Large Scale Map and Map Information Production Regulation, and the description of sheet division in Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Erkan's textbook Kadastro Tekniği. Coordinate transformations use proj4js 2.9.0 (MIT licence); icons come from Lucide (ISC licence). Basemaps belong to Esri and OpenStreetMap contributors, and tiles are loaded from those services. Frequently Asked Questions
How is a 1:5,000 sheet name read?
In G25-d-01-d, G25 is the 1:100,000 sheet: row G lies between latitudes 40°30' and 41°, and column 25 between longitudes 30°30' and 31°. d is the south-west quarter of that sheet, a 1:50,000 sheet. 01 is the north-west one of the 25 1:10,000 sheets in that 1:50,000 sheet. The final d is the south-west quarter of that 1:10,000 sheet, which is the 1:5,000 sheet.
Is a 1:10,000 sheet part of a 1:25,000 sheet?
No, not directly. Both are derived from the 1:50,000 sheet: 1:25,000 sheets come from splitting it into four (G25-d1), and 1:10,000 sheets from splitting it five by five into 25 parts (G25-d-01). A 1:25,000 sheet is 7'30" across and a 1:10,000 sheet 3', so some 1:10,000 sheets straddle two 1:25,000 sheets.
Why does choosing ED50 or ITRF96 change the result?
In both systems the sheet corners fall on the same round latitude and longitude values, but ED50 and ITRF96 positions differ by roughly 100 to 130 metres in Turkey. A sheet on an old ED50 map and the current ITRF96 sheet of the same name therefore do not cover the same ground, and a point close to a sheet edge can fall in the neighbouring sheet depending on the datum.
Can the sheet name from this tool be used for official work?
The tool is an aid. For land registry, cadastral and zoning procedures, the sheet index of the responsible authority, the General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre (TKGM) or the municipality, prevails. Older cadastral sheets in particular may have been produced in local systems or with a different division.
